Trinidad

No Cuba Vacation is complete without a visit to the charming UNESCO World Heritage town of Trinidad. Trinidad has narrow, cobbled streets, views down to the the clear waters of the Caribbean and a vibrant and eclectic music scene that comes alive at dusk. The nearby Escambray mountain range is also well worth exploring.

About Trinidad, Cuba

Characterised by its many-coloured pastel terraces and rust red roofs, these fertile, mountainous lands close to the sea have brought great wealth to lucky locals. This was a region in which sugar cane trade flourished, especially between 1750 and 1850, and many hugely wealthy Spanish families built gorgeous mansions around the main square. This is a great location from which to make day trips to the glorious Playa Ancon, rather than opting to stay in an all-inclusive hotel right on the beach.

What can you do in Trinidad, Cuba?

Many visit Trinidad for the day, but those who choose to stay a few nights can really get under the skin of this handsome, historical city.  During the day you may decide to trek to the waterfalls of Topes de Collantes in the nearby Escambray Mountains and take a dip in one of the natural pools, you could cycle down to the coast and find your own little private spot of paradise, charter a boat and fish, take a step back in time and visit a former slave centre that fuelled the sugar boom in the region during the 19th Century all before experiencing live music everynight in the local plaza where you can sip a Bucanero beer, listen to some exceptional music, and for the brave maybe even try a little salsa dancing!

Why we love Trinidad

Trinidad is very much on the tourist radar, and rightfully so; it is a gorgeous place. Narrow cobbled streets, brightly painted houses and terracota rooftops all sloping down towards the Caribbean sea. We advise leaving the city during the day, as it can get busy, and wholly advocate explore some of the quieter local areas. At night you can't avoid the local musicians.
