When is the best time to visit Peru?

Peru tours are possible throughout the year, and our team have experienced all seasons and can discuss the perfect times to visit. There are three main geographical regions to Peru, each with their own microclimates that we need to take into account when designing any Peru holiday to ensure the weather doesn't hamper your Peruvian tour. The following is a brief guide to the weather in Peru:

When is the best time to visit the Peru Jungle? (The Amazon)
The best months to visit the Amazonian jungle for Peru wildlife experiences is from mid-April to October. It is always hot and humid and occasionally you will need to don a poncho as it rains all year round. Outside these months, we advise cruises as opposed to lodges as the trails are often flooded; the rain can be so intense that all wildlife spotting is restricted to around the lodge.

When is the best time to visit Machu Picchu and trek the Inca Trail? (The Andes)
The best months to visit are from mid-April to October. During these months the weather is mostly dry with very cool evenings, due to the altitude. These are the perfect months to trek the Inca Trail to Machu Picchu, explore the traditional indigenous communities that live in the Ollantaytambo and discover the beauty of these mountains. November to May is wet, but with fewer tourists and there are often offers at hotels and with the airlines during this season.

When is the best time to visit Peru's beaches? (The Pacific Coast)
The best time to visit the Pacific Coast is from November to March. The best places are Lima, Paracas and Mancora where the weather will be hot and dry. Outside these months it can rain in the afternoons, and there is often a sea haze.

What are the best hotels in Peru?

The infrasture for tourism in Peru is exceptional and there are lots of wonderful hotels from which to choose. In the Andean mountain range you can stay at boutique, luxurious and charming hotels such as the Relais & Chateaux Sol y Luna. In Cusco, we advise opting for a hotel that's located in the heart of the old town so that you can enjoy the buzz of the city by day and night. One of our favourite luxury options is the Monasterio, where history neatly meets contemporary in the highest quality furnishings, service and food. The Belmond Monasterio is a pioneer for all historic city hotels. Alternatively, a smaller and more economical guest house like Casa San Blas may look ideal.

There really are a wealth of good accommodation options, and it is easy to feel swamped by the vast amounts of information you can find on each. Take a moment to have a chat with one of our specialists, all of whom know every property we recommend exceptionally well. It really is worthwhile to talk through your various exciting Peru holiday options in order to find the best ones to suit you.

How much does a bespoke Peru tour cost?

As a general guide, a two week trip to Peru including all transfers, excursions, national park entrance fees, internal flights, accommodation and a variety of shared and private excursions with support before, during and after your trip will cost upwards from £2,500/$3,500 per person.

    Top three Peru tips

  • Food: The food is spectacular and well worth venturing out of your comfort zone for. If you like seafood, you should try ceviche.
  • Cocktails: Try the zesty national cocktail, the pisco sour, a refreshing white grape based cocktail.
  • Visit a market: A local market is the hub of local life in the countryside and wandering around the hustle and bustle of a market is a great way to get an interesting insight into local life.
