Best Time To Visit The Galapagos Islands

Galapagos is a year-round destination with a sub-tropical climate, located on the Equator. The Galapagos only receive 10 inches of rain per year, and much of this falls on the highlands that supports the lush vegetation. The coastal areas are more desert-like and the main differences in the seasons are the water temperatures.  Most of the animals are non-migratory and can be seen year round; the 'best time' to visit can only be determined by your interests and priorities for your Galapagos holiday.

Mid-December to May is known as the warmer and wetter Galapagos travel season. The water is warm as the Central American currents move southwards to the islands. This makes snorkelling a little warmer and wet suits are not always required. There are short, yet sometimes strong rain showers during these months. Temperatures are warmer and the days have longer, clearer periods. The seas are also relatively calmer, although most of the modern yachts have been designed with stabilizers so not much can be read into the choppy current claims.
Average daily highs are 29C (85ºF); average daily lows of 24ºC (76ºF); average sea temperatures are 24ºC (76ºF); average monthly rainfall is 71 mm.

Late June to November is relatively cool, with often overcast skies as the cold Humbolt current from Antarctica move north which creates a mist (garua). Drizzle in the highlands in the afternoons is common and a drought on the already arid coastal locations continues. As it is cooler, (August is coolest), the water plankton flourishes -  making the underwater activity exciting and busy. Snorkelling in these months is cooler and you may require a wetsuit. It is the breeding season for lots of birds, marine iguanas, sea lions and fur seals.
Average daily highs are 25ºC (77ºF); average daily lows of 20ºC (68ºF); average sea temperatures are 24ºC (76ºF); average monthly rainfall is 9mm.
