Hotel Mama Cuchara by Art

This historical hotel that was a meeting point for a group that planned the assassination of conservative President Gabriel Garcia Moreno in 1875. The beautiful building is now a luxury hotel that boasts a rotating collection of original art from Ecuador’s finest.

Hotel Mama Cuchara Quito is located in the UNESCO world Heritage Site close enough to the main historical sites of interest that you can easily get there within ten minutes, but you are located in a relatively quieter part of the city that has superb views.

This new chain of hotels has now got 3 hotels in Ecuador. Their Quito branch is run by an extremely experienced hotelier that has worked for some of Quito’s best hotels.

The rooms at Hotel Mama Cuchara Quito

There are four different room categories at Mama Cuchara. All of the rooms are of a very comfortable and high finish. What the rooms have in common is that all teh rooms all open up internally to face the inner courtyard, varnished beams are visible on the ceilings, the bathrooms are modern and all have showers (some have a bath) and the headboards are bespoke carvings.

The facilities at Hotel Mama Cuchara Quito

There is a large internal courtyard that has a good sized restaurant called La Plaza that showcases the best of Ecuador in their delicious tasting menu that changes with whatever is in season. We love the EL Santo que da Marido bar that has panoramic views out over the rooftops of Quito and over to Pancillo Hill. The bar is extremely well equipped, but it specialises in gin. In the evenings large heaters fight off the evenings chill as the lights of the city illuminate the view.
