Refugio Amazonas is a rustic eco-lodge remotely located close to the Tambopata National Park. This is one of the best run lodges in the southern Amazon of Peru.
Refugio Amazonas - The Details
At almost 4 hours upstream from the port, Refugio Amazonas lodge is located deep in a pristine area of the Peruvian jungle. Being so remote means that fewer tourists venture into this area, and it is very quiet for you to enjoy the natural environment.
The lodge is made up of a main building where guests eat, rest in the lounge or listen to the resident naturalist guides giving lectures in the evenings. There are four walkways leading away from the main building to the guest bedrooms. Like all the buildings at Refugio Amazonas, the rooms a constructed with recycled wood. Each room is spacious, and has one side open to the elements. You do feel fully immersed in nature at this lodge, but you can also hear your next door neighbours, as the walls are very thin!
All meals are served in the main building and are buffet style. Typically they are of a decent standard that should keep your energy levels topped up. But don't expect gourmet!
We recommend at least 3 nights at Refugio Amazonas as it takes over three hours to get here from Puerto Maldonado, and then an afternoon on the river before arriving here.
